sand for corydoras/plants

So ive had caribsea floramax which is sharp and edgy and bad for my corydoras. So I topped it off with black moon sand by Carib sea and it all just went to the bottom from the corys turning it over. Now one of my cories barbels are gone and now the stubs are bright red. Ive had this gravel for about 6 months and its jusst making me sad seeing my corries sad and injured. They had very long barbels when I had sand before l wanted a planted tank. So I need advice on how can I have black soft sand for the corys button still good for plants. This is for my 29 gallon. Please post asap id like to change it soon

Just use root tabs underneath the sand.

You can also use dividers if you want mostly sand with just a few areas for rooted plants. One of my friends has a great tank with flexible acrylic pieces used to outline islands on the far right and left sides of the sand tank that are filled with a planting friendly substrate with the rest left as just a thin layer of sand.

You could also do a sand set up with all your plants being rhizomes or mosses that you mount on driftwood pieces and/or rocks.
