How to keep sand clean?

My substrate is dirt capped with sand. My sand always has this greenish/brownish funk to it. My tank doesn't have any noticable algae except for the sand, which has the greenish tint to it. I've got RCS, Nerite snails, and Amano shrimp, so any food and debris that falls to the substrate is taken care of by them. Is there any trick to keeping a sand substrate clean? Thanks.

Cory cats do a great job at keeping sand turned and clean. Bottom feeders do a good job in general cleaning sand.

Find the reason why you sand is getting this algea stuff and fix it. Good flow helps keep sand clean.
