Eco Complete and Black Diamond

Has anyone used Eco Complete with a cap of Black Diamond? I'm trying to get a good substrate that won't dirty the tank if I want to move things but give me enough of an absorption level for nutrients to keep my plants growing. The reason I want to use the Black Diamond as a cap is to increase my depth. I'll be doing this on a 150 gallon tank and I would rather use tabs than have a problem with dirt. Just to hard to reset or change out large amounts of water.
