New Amazonia 0 ammonia after just a week?

I set up a Spec with some New Amazonia just over a week ago. Due to working full time I didn't change the water as much as I had hoped. I tested the ammonia last night and it was around 2ppm. I did a 100% wc and another ammonia test 24 hrs later and it is at 0. Does that seem right? The tank was seeded with cycled media. I am going to retest just in case...

If your tap water was high pH and you used an established filter or media from an established filter it's quite possible your bene bac could already be keeping up with the leeching.

mm... another 12 hrs later and ammonia reads between 0 and .25ppm.

I am in quite a pickle. I have an empty, cycled 33 gallon tank that I planned to keep the betta in until the Spec was done cycling. But the betta became incredibly stressed in the 33 gallon. I guess it was just too big... he is in my 10 gallon tank right now but that is NOT an ideal place for him as it is overstocked with a german blue ram and a bunch of guppies - He has chewed up their fins already and I'm scared someone is going to get seriously hurt.

I think I am going to put mister betta in here anyways. I will keep on top of daily water changes and heavy testing of the tank to make sure it is safe.

yeah i have a 6 gallon fluval edge that has a betta and established HOB filter. i just put in power soil, new amazonia [regular and powder]. The first day i did 100% WC, with some re-scaping. second day, 20% and then today another 20%. before the WC today i tested ammonia and dropped drastically from the first day - so no doubt an already established media filter is doing some work.

I personally would keep up on your WC's if you add your betta back into the new environment. (maybe 10% every 12 hours) or test it daily.

worst case scenario, get a holding tank (a clean gallon bucket) fill it and just have a refuge their for him till you are certain the NH is gone. (i personally have mine is a 1 gallon fish bowl, doing 20% WC's. I know he is pissed at me *sighs*)

Betta is in! He's quite happy, eating like a monster... he's pretty funny, loves to wedge himself in between the plants and rest against the filter intake.

I would like to get him some live/frozen food... I'm not really sure what's best for a betta but I will do some research! Right now he's getting Omega One super color pellets.

When in doubt, feed blood worms!
