Tabs or base layer?

Hey all I just wanted to know if certain root tabs are better than others. I was originally thinking of using pfs with tabs. I then thought about using something like Eco complete, fluval flora stratum, tetra plant complete etc capped with pfs but have read that the sand tends to sink to the bottom and mix go dirty etc. so I am thinking of going back to pfs with tabs. Now just to find the best ones. Over to you planted tank gurus!

Caps/Tabs are a substitute for Dirt. No real magic to it. Just a matter of what you want to do .

I don't think you will get a tremendous benefit with any of the substrates listed compared to pool filter sand with root tabs. If we were talking ADA Aqua Soil, I would likely have a different opinion. However, you will likely get more benefit from both a quality substrate combined with root tabs. You would also likely use less root tabs over time which may pay for itself.

I was just reading up on the Ada stuff and looking at it if I cap it with sand is it not going to lose the added benefit of buying that specific brand as water and oxygen and really going to penetrate the sand cap are they? Forgive me if this is a dumb question it will be my first proper planted scape
