Used Eco-Complete Question

I acquired some free used Eco-complete. Does it need to be recharged?
I am growing HC emersed right now and it seems like the areas that where I put new eco complete are growing better than the areas on the used substrate.
I am spraying everything with water that I dosed with all 4 of the liquid Pfertz and Flourish Excel.
Is that enough or should I do something else?

Eco-complete has a high CEC, which means it should absorb some of the ferts you add to the tank. So, technically, you are recharging it every time you dose. If there is a significant difference between the old and new Eco-complete, there might be something preventing it from absorbing more ferts, or it might just need some more time to stock up.

You don't need to add Flourish Excel to an emersed tank. Excel is a carbon supplement, and when growing emersed your plants will get all the carbon they need from the CO2 in the air.
