Lightweight substrate suitable for plants?

Does there exist a lightweight substrate that is good for plants?

Or, what is the minimum inches of substrate you would need for a planted aquarium?

Aqua Soil is pretty darn light, and about as good as it get for plant substrates.

1-3" depending on the plant.

+1 on aquasoil. I've used both fluval stratum and shrimp stratum with good results also. It makes the water slightly acidic just so you know.

You might have to deal with ammonia leaks from the aqua soil for a little while, right? lol but if you have a very low pH you wouldn't have to worry as much.

lol, I love commas
