Sand over Gravel

I am reading a lot about sand sinking into fluorite or eco-complete other gravel over time. I'd like to keep the CEC of gravel. Has anyone ever attempted to put a fine mesh of nylon over gravel then added sand to help prevent this? Like wedding veil material? Dutchworks is doing something similar with sand over soil. Root tabs would have to go into the sand instead of the gravel, of course. Is there any value to be had in this?

I significantly prefer the look of Fluorite, but I also love bottom feeders and am considering getting a couple serpentine loaches (I don't have an exact species, I like all of them I have seen), and if so the Fluorite would reportedly be a bad choice.

Any sort of fabric/mesh/screen... will become a problem when you try to plant or transplant things in the tank. I wouls just stick with the flourite or EC and skip the sand, or else leave a dedicated area of sand like a path through the plants.
