Benefits of used aquasoil?

Sometimes I see people putting out WTB for used AS.
Why? From what I've heard, the nutrients are depleted after a while and the buffering capabilities are reduced. Is it the high CEC thing that gets people?

At the end of the day, what makes used AS different from, say, Akadama or Turface?

High CEC is very good.
Most of the nutrients are still there after a while (seems only nitrogen is seriously depleted)
Yes, the buffering is reduced. This can be good, if you are starting with the water you want, and the buffering is altering it away from what you want.

Compare to Soil Master Select (similar to Turface, but I have run tanks with SMS longer)
High CEC.
Never had any nutrients, but the EI method loads it up thanks to the CEC.
Buffering is reduced. Old SMS no longer removes the KH like when it was new.
Can be removed from a tank and reused. Does not seem to break apart, does not turn to mush.
