Dirt Question

Is It possible to reuse MGOPM from a tank that has been running a few months(4)? I plan to use it in a bigger tank with some new MGOPM.

Sure. Messy, but doable.

I would drain as much water as possible to remove the dirt with less mess and dissolving in the water.

Yeah, get all the water out. Plop in your mud, and I presume you had some sort of cap substrate. It will probably get mixed in while trasferring but if you're going bigger then you'll probably be adding more dirt and a new cap substrate. I think this woud actually be more beneficial than doing all new dirt.

Hi, did this while going from 10 gallon to 20 long and i drained the water as much as I could and used a flat piece of plastic to move one little slice at a time(kinda like a cake) , still had a little bit of mixing and didn't transfer perfectly. But it was way better than from scratch had an instant cycle and alot less tannis leaching into the water. Also I was able to keep the cap intact for 3/4 of the 10 gallon which equaled about 1/2 of the 20 gallon's bottom.
