Best Capping Substrate?

Hey so I'm going to be putting a substrate in my 29 gallon tank soon, and I was wondering what would be the best for capping? I'm going to have Miracle Grow dirt on the bottom layer, then I was thinking maybe PFS or Eco Complete. Let me know which you think will be better for plants/fish and what looks the best in your guys' tanks!

I prefer sand. I am currently using Black Diamond Blasting grit in one tank and Const. Sand in two others. I'm equally happy with both.

avoid eco complete

I would avoid eco complete. I used it as a capping substrate but it compacted the soil. This happened since the smaller eco complete particle would sink into the soil.

+1

I'm actually starting to think I made a mistake using the Black Diamond in my display tank. It's too dark in there and it doesn't look 'Right' it's too perfect. My const. site sand tanks look more 'Real'.

I would do something dark or brown personally. I wouldn't want to do a light color, especially with sand. Reason being, I have yet to have a dirt tank where I didn't pull any soil up. Outside of that, it doesn't really matter. You can go totally inert or something that will benefit your plants, the benefits will be very small compared to soil.

I like Flourite or similar substrates, from an appearance perspective. Brown, black, or both mixed.

I'm not sure which Miracle Grow to use yet, whichever is most highly recommended here I was told but I forgot. I think I'll stick with PFS since it is relatively cheap and easily accessible where I live. Thanks guys.
