My 20 is done in strictly Playsand.. I did it the first time with peatmoss under and playsand as a cap. It was a headache to maintain. I took it all out and redit it just strictly playsand. I have to say im not a fan of it as it is now either. The fish waste has no where to go but on top of the sand. 2 angels, 2 tiger barbs a gourami and a cory cat. I almost have to vacuum the tank twice a week for it to look presentable. if you go this route all i can say is RInse rinse rinse rinse and rinse some more the sand before you use it. I used sakrete play sand fyi

Sorry for the late reply, I think my tanks been this way for a month or so. IT consists of Mondo grass, A few swords, and some green white Acorus. all doing well, the grasses have produced runners i guess u would call them. the roots have traveled Far!

Do a search on here for black diamond blasting sand. Many people here use it and are very happy with it. It's $7.99 for 50lbs at Tractor Supply. Most use the 20-40 grit.

Here is my stash of pix - they aren't in any order but you can look around....
