another black diamond thread

I have been seeing a lot of talk lately about black diamond substrate. It just so happens I need to change my polypterus tank over to sand and i want a black sand. Would the black diamond material be too rough for the polypterus? Thanks

Yes I think it would be just fine to use with them. I was using in all my sand sifter and shelldweller tanks without a problem as well as keeping Cory's on top of it and they never had a problem either. Even to the touch it doesnt feel any rougher than PFS or pretty much any other sand out there.

I seen it sold in 2 grit sizes, 20-40 and 60-80. The 20-40 is what your after, since the other is way too fine and I am sure it will end up compacting down way more then the 20-40. I have use it all of my tanks now, whether it is the only substrate or acting as a cap and cant really come up with a complaint yet. Just be sure to wash wash wash until no more junk is floating off the top and running pretty clear.

Hope this helps you!

Just as a note, watched my cories last night burying their faces in it looking for food and they all still have their barbels and no damage can be seen!
