Colombo Florabase

Hi I just had a dreadful experience with cat litter (ok baked clay that is then utilised as cat litter so its not that horrid messy stuff, its actually used quite a lot) as an intended low cost substrate and now I am thinking of Colombo Florabase. Anyone using it ? I heard it leaches ammonia for the first few weeks. Is that true ?

While there are international users in plantedtank.net, most individuals are located in the United States. That being said, Colombo Florabase is not available here in the states or I'd have heard of it previously.

A simple google search regarding any product available on the market should provide an answer. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.u...t.php?sid=3263

Practicalfishkeeping.co.uk states 2 weeks for the spike.

Fired clay kitty litter in the USA may not be the same as fired clay kitty litter in the UK.

Well it seems this forum will be of no use to me then.
