Do pottings soils really expire within months?

People on this on other forums mention that soils like Miracle Gro exhaust their nutrients in a matter of months. Is this really the case? If so, what do people do then? Restart the tank? Surely no one would want to redo their tank every few months, with all the stress that comes with it for fish, plants, and owners.

We have members here with dirt tanks that are YEARS old. I've not seen one thread about a dirt tank being depleated in a few months.

Nitrogen runs out pretty fast, but everything else should last years, depends on the soil type also...but most clay soils will have a 10 year life, or more.
If you have N coming in from fish and KNO3 a little bit, often not a big deal.
This(some water column dosing) will also extend the life of the soil. This way ferts are in both locations and one is long term, the other easy to add and short term.

There have been MTS tanks posted on here that are over 10 years old. Miracle Gro is minineralized when you put it in but eventually it will be the same thing.
