new substrate

Hey everyone

Moving to a new substrate. Want some ideas mainly for look.

Right now doing my research on eco (which is currently have mixed with peas gravel), amazonia, flourite (probably black sand) in addition to pool filter sand and others (dont want to do soil as Im a grad student and move usually every 1-2 years, just too messy)

I know there is a pro and cons forum on here and while thats a great reference, Im looking for something more such as the way it actually looks. Kinda like discuspaul and his shots of his discus pool filter sand.

I want something low maintenance, looks good with my fauna (4 blue angels, 4 cories, 4 plecos, 3 SAEs, and tetras) Im pretty bad about dosing, but try to at least dose a bit of dry ferts once a week and usually will do root tabs every few months.
any suggestions or pics people can post?

What lighting will the tank have? And, what plants? In general, a fertile substrate will give you a lot more leeway on dosing the water than an inert substrate, so that is one big plus for ADA Aquasoil Amazonia.

As i know your take on lights... im embarassed to say 3x39 w hagen glo t5ho lights. 2 at 6700k and at 18000k.

Tank is co2 injected via my canisters. I have thought about amazonia, but the one big problem is the cost. I found flourite black sand on amazon for around 25 a bag (i have amazon prime= free shipping). IMO, eco complete just isnt that great.

Plants consist of hygros, crypts, swords mostly, nothing crazy and no HG.
