To dirt or not to dirt?

A quick question before I head into town for supplys. I have enough Floramax to do about a 2" layer in the tank. After reading up on the forum last night and today. Should I add a 1" layer of potting soil below this? Also would it be a good idea to put root tabs in before I add the Floramax layer to help add a fertilizer boost to the substraight?

Here is the tank build to give a idea:

I like using dirt but moving plants around will stir it up. If you still want dirt, a 2" of cap is too much. I think you should mix half of the floramax with 1" of dirt and cap with the last 1". Or you could get more floramax and just use it. The dirt can help make your tank low maintenance if you run low light, but hard to re-scape. You will have to decide how you want to run it.

Just because its dirt doesn't make it low tech

The idea behind using dirt is to get away from Chemicals.

I have dirt in 3 tanks and love it. I have rescaped my 125g 3-4 times and my 55g twice and I will be rescaping all three tomorrow and I have yet to have a problem. There are a few pieces of dirt here or there on the sand cap, but it's really not that bad.

Thanks for the advise. Going to run MG Organic on the bottom and a mix of Eco-complete (shipped to me in place of 2 bags of Flora Max) and Flora Max on top.
