power sand and/or aquasoil?

Hey Guys,

Could somebody give me a little advice? I'm starting a new tank from scratch. I like the look of power sand, but it looks like I add aqua soil then top it off with power sand. Does anybody have any experience with this stuff? Also, if I had to cover a base of 48x24, how much of each would I purchase?

I believe PowerSand actually is the base to which Aquasoil is added. Check out ADG's site at this link, which provides an explanation of the substrate products and a chart for determining how much you will need for your aquarium.

That is correct. Powersand is the base you will need and the Aquasoil goes on top. Most people are using Powersand M topped with Aquasoil Amazonia. There are a lot of naysayers out there, but I have seen plants grown in it first hand and it is quite amazing. Also, FYI I do not know if this has happened yet, but the prices on these products are set to increase significantly in the near future...about 70% or so. To give you a rough guide I'm redoing my 75 gallon and that has a base of 48 x 18. I ordered 8 Liters of Powersand M and 36 Liters of Aquasoil Amazonia.
