ok one more question. It says i would need 40 lb for 2 inches.. could i mix the ecocomplete with gravel, maybe fine gravel..? or would that hurt it?? as i understand eco-complete helps the plants through the micro and macro nutirents.. so as long as it is mixed with fine gravel / sand .. the plants should have the same beneficial nutrients? correct??

I doubt that laterite caused your pH swing. I would look somewhere else for the cause.

I second what Rex said.

I doubt laterite caused a Ph swing. I use this stuff in all my tanks - even my african tanks. I would look at the usual parameters (Kh,Co2,Ph, and all those others) first.

Well I've though i looked everywhere.
The tank was and has been for over 4 months at
a ph of 6.8
and a kh of 50 degrees lime 2.8 ppm i believe
a gh of 30 degrees.

i do weekly 20% changes, as it's a 20 gallon..
and have added nothing except - laterite.. and other iron supplement..

the laterite obviously made the tank look like a mud pit..

anyhoo, I was just wondering about the eco complete.. as i didn't want to break the tank down and start over, but seeing as i have at most 8 fishies left, i dont see the harm in it now.. so hopefully the eco will come in sometime this week.. also going out of town as LFS suck.. to get some driftwood.. and maybe some rams =[ As i lost 4 in the last two days..

I too agree that it was not the laterite.

I have had it my tank for four years now and I have never had a problem like the one you describe.

I think your GH may be responssible for your swing. There is a critical buffering point you know.
