Does Purigen counteract Ammonia from ADA Substrate?

Will using Seachem Purigen in a external filter, would that remove or counteract the Ammonia that's leached from new ADA Amazonia Substrate? If not, is there any product that would remove this type of Ammonia?

My problem is I need to top up with new Ada Substrate, but have fish which I can only temporarily keep in another tank, not for the 3 weeks it takes for the Ammonia to clear.

(my filter is fully mature)

Pretty sure purigen won't remove ammonia. With a fully mature filter your bacteria colony will expand to take care of the extra ammonia quickly. If you do it in stages and watch the ammonia carefully the first week or so (doing water changes as necessary), my guess is you will be OK. Zeolite based products (ammo-chips) will remove ammonia, but you might exhaust them rather quickly.

thanks!

Just re-read the info on the website and I noticed it says it processes the waste that cause Ammonia.. but not the ammonia itself. The filter is fully mature, used it for 5 months so hopefully it can cope with it.
