EC Calculation

I think theres a problem the substrate calculator..I think it recommends too much. For example, CaribSea and other people recommend 1 bag of EC for a 10g (10x20)..so if I were going to calculate how much I need for a 58g (36x18), it would look like this- 1/200 = x/648 x=3.24 or 3 bags and a half

Would this be correct?

How deep do you want it?

one bag of Eco-Complete is 2" of depth in a 10 Gallon tank... If you want 2" of depth in your 58 Gallon then yes, the substrate calculator is correct as it will recomend 72lbs (approx 3.5 bags).

I just used 8 bags in a 90, could probably go with one more.

Yep, that's the question. Most like 3 inches or so in larger tanks, but for a 10 gal, 2 inches is plenty. I have EC in three tanks. One bag in a 10 gal - perfect amount. Three bags in a 46bow - could use 1 more bag. Three bags in a 30g long - perfect amount for scaping hills.

Yeah, in a 10gallon tank, you won't have room for a sword plant which is the primary reason for going over 2" of depth.
