Sand?

I know there's a bunch of sand question threads already but I didn't feel like hijacking one with my own questions. So here goes, calling everyone with sand in their tank. How noticeable is dirt on it? Does fish poop gather and stay on top of it, causing you to vacuum above the sand more than you would with a darker substrate? I'm considering a light colored sand as opposed to Fluorite black.

if you have light/white sand then it will show up and be very apparent. fish poop does gather and stays on top of it. If you have a planted tank getting some MTS to help fertilize the sand. if your wondering what a tank with that type of sand with no cleaning looks like then check out my 110g in my sig.

Just be aware the sand gets really nasty at first, but after a while it should clear up. You can turn it over, or remove some then add some fresh sand in after a while...

i have pool filter sand in my paludarium and the natural colour really hides the junk on it well. with my Macro' prawns in there i have no need to clean the sand.
