Ecosystem - Planting Soil vs Garden Dirt

Good morning all,
Quick question I hope...

I'd like to create a small 2.5 gallon ecosystem. A heavily planted tank with no filter or CO2. Eventually I'd like to stock the tank with a very light bio-load (shrimp, snails, or a few small tetras).

Regarding the substrate...From what I've read and seen on videos, there is a split between people who use fish tank planting soil and sifted top-soil from their home garden. Since most of us don't know the nutrient level of the soil outside our front door, and given the importance of having healthy plants in an ecosystem that will not be aided by a filter, I would think that aqua planting soil would be the right choice here.

Any insight would be appreciated.
Have a great day and stay safe everyone!

Thanks,
Fred
