Controsoil?

Has anyone used controsoil before? I tried searching the forums but didn't see any results. Seems to have good reviews but I'm always happy to hear more opinions.

I heard it doesn't have much nutrients as others. A friend of mine recommended Tropica as an affordable option. I have SL Aqua soil for shrimp, but for a large tank, I'm going to go with pool filter sand mostly, and some Tropica under my plants.

Based on the little bit of reading I've done it seems like it is being marketed as similar to fluval stratum and Seachem Flourite? Would one of those perhaps be a better bet?

If its for Plants, I would think ADA Aqua Soil Amazonia would be the best.
There has probably been a comparison of the active soils done (as far as nutrients) at some point on the forum. Or, elsewhere on the internet.

I have Controsoil in 2 of my planted shrimp-tanks; however, I wont use it again. Not because it was bad for plants, but because it kept bottoming out my KH which is bad for consistency with shrimp. The last tank I set up a couple weeks ago for shrimp I used Amazonia.

I used uns controsoil in my tank and it helped lower the pH of my hard water. From the tap, my water is a mid 8 pH and after putting in the controsoil the water tested consistently at 7.5 for a while. Obviously it the soil loses its potency after a while but so far it's been easy and simple for my low tech tank to get plants growing.
