Pool filter sand IMO, he can dig, plus it gives the tank a 'finer' look.

GT's are big enough that any sand or gravel will work just fine. I love the look of beach play sand, which was my primary choice back when I was a cichlid nut.

Pool filter sand is pretty cheap off eBay and for the vac i would say no, just for the fact it is very light and tends to end up being sucked up after a vac.

In the US, Pool Filter Sand is available at every pool shop around. Any town over 5000 people has one. Even here where it is currently 15 degrees, we have 4 pool shops.

It will cost anywhere from 10-25 dollars for 50 lbs of sand, depending on location.

Little chance of finding a better deal on ebay(and I couldn't, in the USA) after shipping.
