MG Potting Mix (Organic)...can it turn your water red/orange?

Hey guys..and particularly Laura!

I came home last night to see that my tank had a noticeable red/orangue hue to it! I've had MG organic potting mix set under my eco-complete for a good week and a half. Up until a day after I installed my Eheim 2215 (which was yesterday when I noticed the color change), I didn't get any color change in my water. On top of that, the 2215, although it did make my water very clear, didn't uproot or unsettle any of the MG organic mix (i used my zoomed to filter all the gunk out).

Aside from the MG organic mix, eco-complete and rocks I've had in there for multiple weeks, there's nothing in the tank.

My guess is that is the MG potting mix...the peat. Weird thing is for nearly a week nothing happened (I didn't do water changes as there's nothing in my tank). Suddenly, after my eheim was installed, my water turns red!

My question is, did any of you who used MG potting mix have this issue and did it disappear soon? I'm not a big fan of this hue and if its a permanent thing, I may unearth my potting mix!

I will do a near complete water change to get rid of it for now. Thanks!

Does peat stop leeching tannins quickly or should I remove the mix?

I planted the mix in only a small portion of my tank to leave the option of having rooted plants. The rest is a mountainscape with just Eco-Complete.

I figured it was capped well because the only way to unsettle it is to disturb the eco-complete. Since none of the MG was floating up, I assumed it was capped properly.

I'm not sure if I could have capped it better...water is bound to get to it no?

Its less than 1/3 of the aquarium's floor space.

I've decided to keep mainly mosses, needle leaf java fern and nana petite....I was told MG won't even help those so perhaps its that I just remove it?
