Best substrate for plants

Looking for dirt like substrate to use around "mountain area" but not sure what to go with, don't think I want to use regular potting soil.. I think that might get way to muddy?

As I pointed out in your other thread you are going to want to go with an aquasoil of some type. Aquasoil is the generic term for a nutrient rich commercial aquarium substrate. Examples include ada amazonia, uns controlsoil, fluval stratum, and more.

As to which to go with? To my knowledge no one has decided one is difinitively better then any other. Personally when I recently added fluval stratum to my small spec v tank I did so because it was available for cheap at my local petco. If I had a cheaper option I would have bought that instead.

Well I was going to use the "soil" around the mountain area I'm going to build and have sand on the very bottom of my tank. Seeing I don't see the same holding long in one spot. I'm going to be having moss, Java ferns, anubias.. So on..
