Crushed lave rock?

I use crushed lava rock for all my bonsai trees. Would I be able to use this on top of a store bought flourite. I think it'll look cool, and its cheap

I know lava rock is inert and safe since I've used it in aquariums lots of times, but because it can be sharp I'd be careful using it as a top layer with bottom dwelling fish.

I looked into this in the beginning. It looks like it'll work but pretty sharp. Run you hand through it and you might get little cuts. Bad sign.

Caribsea Activflora and Floramax have a couple different substrates that are just crushed lava rock. I have the midnight black capping an NPT and it works great and looks good. Its not sharp but lava rock for bonsais might be. No experience with it.
