Garnet substrate

I was just looking at some blasting media and noticed garnet media in various sizes. The color would be interesting as a substrate, has anyone used this? I'm not sure if I would put my Cory's in a tank with it, not sure how sharp it is, but other fish, yes.

I haven't used it but I looked into it a while back. There are stories of folks using it quite successfully. The biggest downside is that its pretty fine, something coarser would be better. Ideal levels seems to be around mesh 12-16 - I think most garnet blast media is around 80 grit which translates to 70 mesh with the lower numbers being larger pieces.

I did look into it a little and was able to find mesh 12/16 I believe mixed. The water jet media was way to fine. I might have to try this. I wonder how plants will fare in it?

Its inert so a lot like sand or gravel. Where did you find it?

Looked at it before but seemed cost prohibitive. Maybe just small tank/bowl that you only need a little or mix it with some Peace River to add a little extra red color to it. Beautiful looking stuff though.

12/25 mesh, not sharp at all really, looks like pool filter sand just rich red color.

It is a little expensive but I was looking at it for a 5-10 gallon tank, so not too bad.
