Eco complete and what type of cap

Well wright now I have eco and I started to get discus. All the fish look dark and I was interested it capping it off with something on the lighter side. From searching I found that pool filter sand will just goto the bottom. So then I was wondering about kitty littler or oil dry.

If you use a finer material than the eco complete, it will eventually settle to the bottom under the eco. It may last a little while, but won't take long to expose it. If you notice, the eco settles on itself also.

You may want to reconsider removing all the existing substrate, or get something with larger grain than eco (which may not be easy)

Kitty litter or oil dry both seemed 'dusty' in a sample jar. After 3-4 weeks it crumbled easily when rubbed between my fingers. I would'nt recommend either over you Eco-Complete. Flourite is about the same weight and used in a mix Flourite will stay on top (has in my tanks).
Also once your plants fill in the Eco may not stand out as bad with a green carpet.

Yea I have been trying to grow a green carpet for quite some time and now luck. Even with co2,4 55watt lights over a 55 gallon and Ei doseing. Every thing else grows like a weed but the carpet.
