my way was effective but back breaking. someone ( hoppy i think) told me a better way, but i cant remember it! ha so here is how i did it

-5 gallon bucket filled 1/2 with sand.
-fill bucket with water until there is 1" of water over the sand
-stick arm in and swirl vigorously
-carefully pour water out
-REPEAT 15+ TIMES!

then rinse once more for safety

i also would use a jet-spray hose nozzle ( if you have it, unlike me ) i held my hand over the hose ( to make it spray harder ) and swirled my hand in the bucket. then dumped the excess of, once it settled. i used two buckets, so i could swirl one while the other was settling

I fill a 5 gallon bucket with the sand and stick a garden hose with no nozzle into the bottom of the sand and let it overflow. I move the hose around in the sand to loosen it up while it overflows. You'll lose sand this way but it's like $3 a bag so it's not a big loss.

When you think it's rinsed well enough... keep rinsing.
