Brown dust from BDBS

I have BDBS in all my tanks and like it . I notice when I vacuum it a brown dust comes out of it . Just wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this and may know what the dust is ? I figured it was just mulm , but it is so fine I don't know .

My wife says if I get one more aquarium she is going to leave me . I sure am going to miss her fried chicken .

Could be mulm or the fine bits of sand. When I vac i kinda sweep and stir the siphon a couple inches over the sand and stir up the mulm to vac it up. Basically i swirl the siphon and vac a second where I stirred it in place and repeat in different areas.

Yeah that's what I do too , and I vac a little deeper in spots . It probably is mulm , and I thought it may be small bits of the sand too .

Yep, I see it everytime I vacuum up, even in spots I did the week before. Its not the BDBS. Now you will see the finer BDBS particles come up when vaccing but it looks different and falls back down right away if you slow the vac. The brown stuff doesnt.

I don't think I've ever seen a substrate that brown dust can't be vacuumed from in my aquariums :/
