Kh

I have a 10 gallon planted tank with Fluval Stratum as substrate. I started the tank on Oct. 14th with RO water and tap water connected to a water softener. After 3 weeks more research and tank readings with low GH KH and PH I decided to switch the tank over to water out of my frig which would be local tap water not connected to my water softener. Over the last many weeks I have put in 18 gallons of this water through water changes and the readings still will not change. I put in this water
GH 150-300 KH 120-180 PH 7.8-8.4
and the tank still reads GH 75 KH 0-40 PH less than 7.8.
I am using test strips.
I have a Betta in a bowl that I want to move into the tank and it's taking forever. Is it my substrate? I like the GH and PH but not the KH. Is it the Prime or Stability that I'm using? Why wont it change over surely I have moved out the old water by now.
Help appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry no good answers; just some comments. I believe Stratum does lower the ph and can soften the water. Shrimp Stratum will help keep RO water < 7 for caridina shrimp. Never use water from a water softener due to the sodium content. Are you 100% sure your fridge doesn't use the softened water? I don't think Prime or Stability enter the equation.

Stratum is a buffering substrate, meaning it "eats" kH and lowers the pH. Is there any particular reason you want higher kH or pH for your Betta? You can just drip acclimate him/her and go. Bettas like lower pH anyhow.

My algae is the only plant that pearls.

I thought that KH was ideal at 120 - 180 for freshwater fish and at some point I wanted to add other fish too.
