Aqua soil no longer buffering, still good?

I'm wondering if aqua soil that no longer buffers is still beneficial in terms of nutrients (CEC).

I'm setting up a nano in the near-ish future and would like to stock with neocaridinas. The thought had occurred to me to purposefully run out the buffering capacity of the soil by feeding it KH that way I can keep the water harder for the neo's, but would that render the soil inert by doing that? Or would it still benefit plants?
