transition tank question

I'm about to move all of my plants from a 120 to a 240 (will keep the 120 going afterwards). I use BDBS, and have about 4" in the 120. Should I take half of the sand from the 120 and put it into the 240 (will also be BDBS) to bring over the bacteria that are in the existing tank?

Depends on how fast you want the tank to cycle, but for that matter you could always just swap some filter media over....

I would start clean / new. That way there won't be any mess and much less organics in the system to feed algae during the initial break - in stage of a new tank.

I'm planning on moving over established filter media. I'm just wondering if the plants would benefit from "seeding" the substrate as well.

It probably is a benefit to do so for plants, but I've never set up a new tank and not had the plants grow fine right away....

I'm still sticking to starting fresh + clean
