Sand Cap over Amazonia I?

Last few hurdles(mostly mental) to clear and I'm adding water and plants!!
I've searched this topic for quite some time and can't seem to get an exact answer.

I have Amazonia I and 100lbs of #2/12 sand (screened to a nice size) as well as some greyish PFS that I may not use at all!?

I would like to put 3" (give or take) of Amazonia and then cap it with 1" of sand. Is this advisable, inadvisable. Do I NEED to divide my substrates into Amazonia areas and sand areas (A la "ADA aquascape")?

Thanks much everyone!!

It's not advisable to cap it. In a setup like that simply put straight AS where you intend on placing plants. The sand should go where you won't be planting.

Why isn't it advisable? I was told it would "crush" and would turn to mud. Isn't Mineralized Top Soil "crushed"?

Thank!
