mixing gravel and flourite

i'm going to start setting my tank up this week and i had a few questions on substrate. i plan on using 50/50 flourite/gravel. i know flourite is deemed "too coarse", so i was wondering what size gravel i should use, at my lfs they have various sizes of "red Flint" that i was thinking of using, is this stuff just regular gravel or is it something different, will it mess with my ph or anything, i've never seen gravel labeled as red flint before.

You actually want a grain size very close to the Flourite or the two substrates will gradually settle into layers with the larger substrate being on top.
