Eco Complete and D. Hair Grass problem?

I'm about ready to fill a tank with some Eco Complete. I was wondering if I should suplement the EC with some sand (or something of that nature). I was thinking about maybe adding some D. Hair Grass and I am concerned that maybe the DHC won't really have anything to dig into. Will the sand be too dense for the other plants? Any other problems?

Thanks in advance-

DHG will still grow on your EC but not as dense as you would expect it to be since it will only be able spread it's nodes on soft substrate only. It will be a little erratic and may zigzag a little since its roots are very fragile and too soft for the EC. If you use sand, you will need to put roots tabs to supplement growth. Good luck!

Hmmm....thanks for the advice. Here is another thought. What if I use sand only in the area where I plan to grow DHG? Or maybe something like organic Miracle Grow?

Has anyone been able to successfully keep two different types of substrate segregated?
