Dirty substrate

Three questions. This substrate has been laying around in this tank for a few years with nothing else. There is a lot of what looks like detritus on top. Iím setting the tank up for plants. Is there any benefit to leaving this for the plants!?! Or should I fill and siphon?

Also is this enough substrate? I thinks itís close to 2 inches deep.

Last I am pretty sure this is fluorite but am not even positive at this point. Should I top this with another substrate like eco compete or is this fine for plants?

Thanks

I think it all depends upon what plant you want to grow. If its lower light, low tech like anubias, ferns etc then do a few good gravel vac jobs and be done with it. If its stem plants then I highly suggest ditching the entire substrate for new.
About 2.5 to 3 inches max height is good.
A brand new bag of Eco Complete would fill that tank haha. Try out Fluval Stratum or something similar.
