Substrate for under eco complete

Im in negotiations for a 90 gallon tank to replace my 55. Im trying to save money and was wanting something cheap to put under my 3"s of eco in my 55 so I dont have to buy 2 more bags of it. Any suggestions?

Would some type of dirt do well under the eco and maybe be better for the plants?

Yeah, but Eco really isnít the best cap for dirt. If you want to go the dotted route, you could always save the Eco and just use dirt and sand. Black Diamond is cheap, itís about $9 for 50lbs.

I found the black diamond at tractor supply for $9. I got a 50lb bag. Hopefully that will be enough.

I should be setting it up Saturday. I hope its enough with the eco. I have a 2-3" layer in the 55 but dont know if that and 50lbs of bd will be enough for the 90.

You'll want at least 1 more bag. 50 lbs won't even be an inch deep in a 90.

eco complete cannot be treated like a cap. you cant put dirt because itll flow into your water.

you can try clay balls. they are neutral and can hold nutrients.

I ordered 2 bags of eco from amazon so maybe 40lbs more will be enough.
