Hiding soil substrate around edge of tank?

I am going with pool filter sand over organic potting mix.

What is the best way to ensure that the soil is not visible from the outside? Is there an effective way to create a barrier?

When you put your soil in just pull it back from the glass an inch or so then fill it with your sand

I would do the same thing, put you soil in and pull it back from your glass. Then you can put your sand down. If you were worried about the soil coming to the top you could put a peat moss barrier on top of the soil.
