Flourite not good for stem plants???

so i was a high end somewhat lfs yesterday and was talking to one of the employees and he said that my flourite was hard on stem plants. is this true? BTW they only sold one type of substrate

My stems grow great in Flourite.

That sounds like one of the things people say right before they try to sell you a 40 dollar bag of ADA dirt.

+2 I lowered my light level because I got tired of weekly trimmings. Even root feeders like crypts grow very well for me in Flourite. Just don't vaccuum the mulm out of it. Occasionally, just hover the gravel vac above it to clean the top. Not what is underneath.

Stems do well in mine too. So does everything else...

Great sales gimmick.
