Flourite plus sand work?

Hi all,

Would Flourite topped with 1 inch of sand work? Wondering if the sand would become a barrier between the water and flourite hence making the flourite useless. I'm planning to use sand on top to plant a carpet.

As for the sand, are there any types of sand that won't work? From what I've read in this forum people seem to do okay with any type of sand, even sand bought from home depot.

Thanks.

Someone recommended flourite sand to me when I was asking about substrate. You could just use this.

You don't want more than 2-3" total depth, whatever you use.

No issues capping Flourite with sand if you want to- just keep in mind they will mix over time and whatever has the smallest grains will end up at the bottom.

Pool filter sand is probably the most popular type of sand. You can use playsand, but you'll need to be sure to keep it on the shallow side and I'd also recommend some substrate burrowers (like Malaysian trumpet snails) to help avoid anaerobic spots.

Read in forum that it's not as fine as sand so I didn't get it. Plus I already bought a bag of flourite dark so that's no longer an option. Thanks though.
