Reusing EcoComplete, dry it or no?

So I'm slowly taking off the top later of my EC out of my 55g to remove the stuff that the algae just won't let go of. Question: at some point I would like to setup a 10g shrimp tank, and I could probably spare enough EC from the 55g to use, but I'm not quite ready. Should I allow the EC to dry while I'm waiting to set up the 10g?

The thoughts I had on it were:
1) Allowing it to dry would probably kill off the algae that is in it
2) Allowing it to dry would probably harm or reduce the healthy bacteria in it
3) ...the opposites hold true for keeping it moist.

The experts opinions on this? Most likely it will be a good month or two before I'm ready to setup the 10g.

Thanks guys.

Aaron

Its hard for that stuff to dry out I think last time I took town my 10g shrimp tank I put all the eco in a big jar took at all the water that I could then left it in the garage for 1 year in Las Vegas heat 110f + when I used it again the next year algae was gone and eco was still wet and still growing plants good.

algae is remarkably resilient. drying it out probably won't kill it. boiling it would. i've never used eco-complete before though, don't know if it would stand up to agressive boiling. if it does, do that before using it again.
