What's your budget?

There are many, many substrates available, to fit just about any budget.

If you're on a tight budget, check out the sticky at the top of this forum and see about making your own Mineralized Top Soil.

If $$ is no issue, you might want to go with ADA Aquasoil.

In the middle are commercially manufactured substrates like Flourite and Eco Complete.

On the cheaper end are Turface and OilDri.

Substrates that don't have any nutrient content but are still popular for planted tanks include pool filter sand, pea gravel, and Colorquartz.

So- you've got lots of option! There's positives and negatives to each and every substrate option, so just take a read through this forum and see which one you think works best for you.
