2 bags enough onyx for a 55g?

I have 3 (unused) bags of onyx left over from long ago. I'm setting up a 55g low tech. By my calcs, that will be right about 2" of substrate. I am penny pinching this set up, and would prefer not to spend more cash on substrate.

Would I be making a mistake just using the 3 bags, or should I make the effort (and spend the cash) to add another inch? I can't get onyx locally anymore, so it would have to be shipped to me. I have also thought about getting some plain black sand and mixing it with the onyx, but I'm not sure where to get black sand locally or what it might look like mixed in.

EDIT: Thread title is wrong. I have THREE bags not two.

I'd personally get at least one more bag.

I just bit the bullet and bought 5 bags of eco complete since I could get it locally. I'll save the onyx for a smaller tank. It was originally intended for a 29g that I (still) have in the garage anyway.
