Sarting to work with a combo of Fluorescent and LED
I set up a 29G this year and put in a Hagen "flora-glo" (2,700K) in the existing hood, and augmented it with a Marineland 21" "hidden" LED, which mounts on the front rim. it is 6,700K).
I am not sure if the 2,700 K flora-glo penetrates deep enough, and I am switching to the 6,700K "Life-Glo" still in combo with the LED, mainly because the Life-Glo puts out a lot more lumen (ca 2.5x as much).
I am doing the same arrangement in a 10G tank.
It will be very telling once I get a month in my main tank after I switch from the Flora-Glo to the Life-Glo. I am light on fish (a betta, 5 Amano Shrimp, and 7 Aeneus Cory, and 1x Pygmy Cory), and ammo, nitrite, nitrate are invariably zero with healthy plant growth.
