I am not sure where else to post this, but I think it sort of fits here.
I am starting an open top, native planted tank. So far it has 3" of natural clay substrate with rock features and then river gravel sprinkled on top about 1/2" thick to keep the 'dust' down. There is an air pump rated for a 20G (Tetra Whisper) and a 28W dual T8 light fixture held 7" above tank level on a DIY ballast.
With about 3 gallons of water in the tank, what sort of inhabitants could I have the will not climb or jump out or eat my plants. If needed, I wouldn't mind building a platform out of twigs and moss an stuff to make either a dry or moist platform. But this tank must be open top and due to a squeemish mother I cannot run the risk of something getting otu (within reason).
