my terrarium has only been set up for about a week and already there is mold on the coco substrate (eco earth brand). humidity at the soil level is about 80% and i haven't watered in days fearing the mold getting out of control. is there any reason for this? i have a 1" drainage level of shultz, and the eco earth is kept rather fluffy. there is no animal life in there yet, i'd care to get this problem rid of before adding anything.

anybody have any suggestions?

Did you expand the coco with boiling water? The mold can be from several things... spores in the substrate, spores in food (My newt pellets all mold instantly), spores in your own air.

Usually, after a mold infestation, the mold runs out of food and recedes to almost nothing. I have found that any food or oils added to coco will cause an outbreak. (Never put buttermilk on coco, the odor never really goes away!) {Referring to my moss milkshake test}
