riparian pilea

I know people say to grow them on a floating trellis, but. I have a very shallow pond in a vivarium it is about 2 inches deep maximum. I was wondering if piliea would do OK in this without a floating trellis? Would the leaves below the surface just fall off? Would the roots hold it up OK if it had some gravel to dig into?

The Pilea I am familiar with are all house plants, and I have not tried growing them in aquariums. I see Aluminum Plant (P. cadierei) submerged in aquariums, where is slowly dies.
I would think the others are similar, needing to be above the water level.

I have pilea growing with roots in ground but stems trailing underwater, and it does fine like that. The leaves are fine staying under water. But I suspect it wouldn't do as well with the whole plant submerged.
I'm only half a help.

Well that's good, I think I will wait for this one to grow a bit so I don't risk death and then try to take a cutting and put it in the water.
